Silk Scarf
HIGHLIGHTS:
WHY YOU'LL LIKE IT:
The Silk Scarf brings a fresh dial colour to our iconic MACH 1 Pilot collection. Aviation watches are usually monochromatic affairs, but the Silk Scarf gives you a unique colour to wear, while still keeping the Pilot watch character intact. Designed with a fresh new colour that we call Aerobloom, this dial is a definite attention grabber. While the black numerals on the pink dial ensure excellent contrast and daytime visibility, the bright Super-Luminova® pips against at every hour to ensure equally good visibility in the dark. The light grain texture on the dial adds a light luster and dimension to the dial that can only be felt up close. The Silk Scarf is a versatile addition to your watch box.
BACKSTORY OF THIS WATCH:
In the year 1936, 21-year-old Sarla Thukral entered the cockpit of a Gipsy Moth aircraft wearing a Saree. It was a small trainer aircraft with a spirited engine. That morning, Mrs. Thukral would complete her first solo, making her the first Indian woman to acquire a flying license.
In the mid-century, Aviation was an uncommon career choice for women in India. The economic liberalization in the 1980s brought a cultural shift for more women enrolling in aviation careers in not just flight roles, but ground staff, flight-attendants, engineering, and air-traffic control.
Today, India leads the world with an estimated 15% of aviation pilots being women. This number is three times higher than the global average of 5%.
As women pilots and flight staff travel the world, they not only ensure safe and efficient travel but become role models for a young generation. They carry with them the dreams and aspirations of millions of young girls, to look up to and be inspired.
In the formative years of modern aviation, an aviator’s scarf mostly made of silk was worn by pilots. Today the scarf adorns the neck of many flight-crews and stands as a symbol of that freedom to fly.
MACH 1 Silk Scarf is a watch that celebrates women of Indian aviation.
